People may be hesitant to participate in clinical trials due to concerns about their safety, which makes Biotrial hard to recruit volunteers for its clinical studies.

To regaining that trust, the company decided to provide clear and emotional communication strategy to raise awareness of public about the importance of clinical trials and to highlight the benefits of participating in well-conducted clinical trials..

Redesign the volonteer recruitment website is one of the important step of this change. After the redesign, they have doubled the number of volonteers for clinic studies.

Goal : The challenge is to
double the number of volunteers

Biotrial is a Rennes-based group whose core activity involves conducting Phase I clinical trials in France and the United States. With a workforce of 250 employees and an annual turnover of approximately €30 million, expanding the activity relies on recruiting volunteers, which is additionally challenging.

The two markets (FR and US) are very different. In France, the activity maintains a suspicious image. The conversion rate from the initial contact to participation in a visit is decreasing.

In the US, volunteers are often professionals. Recruitment is also challenging, but due to the novelty of the activity, competition, and lack of awareness about Biotrial's advantages. Proximity is also an important geographical criterion. The objective is to double the number of volunteers in the database (currently 12,000).

The redesign of the websites is a tool to achieve this goal.

A mobile-first and responsive design

As smartphones are currently the primary device used daily (84% with an upward trend), screen design will follow a mobile-first approach, with maximum constraints in responsive interface design and a progressively enhanced version for desktop formats.
